Best Place to Fight Monobrow Before a Night on the Town
Whether you're a woman or a man, it's tough to look good while sporting a monobrow. Sure, there may be Web sites like Monobrow.com that declare they're "celebrating the unity of your eyebrows." But why bother going through life with a brow like Bert from Sesame Street when About Face & Body is in town? For about $20, the kind souls at this College Avenue haven can wax off bushy eyebrows in fifteen minutes or less. It's much quicker than plucking, and far less risky than using a razor to shave your monobrow into submission. The shop allows walk-ins as well as appointments, and it's open until 8 p.m. on most nights -- perfect for those moments when you're getting ready for a big event and suddenly realize your brows have merged into one.

'cures for what ails you
Once your feet have been scrubbed clean and rubbed smooth in About Face and Body's house pedicure, they'll take a paraffin dip, then rest in booties while your calves are treated to an all-over massage.

Mom's the Word
(Shopping Around
by Michelle Turner)
... If you prefer something a bit more understated, About Face and Body offers spa treatments in the bustling Rockridge district. Owner Shannon Dorsey, who has 20 years as a licensed aesthetician under her belt, offers a litany of spa treatments at her intimate establishment: facials, pedicures, manicures, body wraps, and deep tissue or Swedish massage. They also sell fragrant candles and body care products. The perfect gift for mom? The toughest part is choosing . . . should it be the "therapeutic salt glow" treatment with essential oils or the quick and delightful "pedi-scrub" for tired feet? Decisions, decisions.

Shop Talk
More ways to pamper yourself are heading your way in Rockridge. About Face and Body is expanding into a storefront on the corner of Alcatraz and College avenues to broaden its offerings, which today include popular walk-in discount waxes and facials.
"I'm expanding into twice the space and going to a day spa," says owner Shannon Dorsey.
When the spa opens at the beginning of July, patrons will be able to indulge in body wraps, salt rubs, and massages. The larger space also will enable Dorsey to expand About Face and Body's skin and body care line. "We're going to have a lot more retail items," she says.
